Chevrolet Camaro 1969 Z/28

By 1969, Chevrolet’s Camaro Z28 had climbed from obscurity to becoming one of the most hallowed option codes in Chevrolet history. The first Z28 was quietly announced in December 1966, without fanfare, advertising or even a mention in Chevrolet sales literature. It was therefore unknown to all but a very few astute observers, many of whom were unimpressed with its ordinary appearance. Its performance, as they soon learned, was anything but ordinary, the result of marrying a 283 CI engine block with a 327 crank, installing all the right horsepower pieces and a nimble suspension. By 1969, the Z28 package had been refined in the crucible of competition and wrapped in a new design that has become an American classic. Beneath the 1969 Camaro’s muscular new façade was a stronger version of the 302/290 HP small-block V-8 with 4-bolt mains, fed by a new cowl-induction hood designed to draw fresh air from the base of the windshield. The Z28’s many charms are all present and accounted for in this 1969 example: the DZ-suffix 302/290 HP engine with 4-barrel carburetor, Muncie 4-speed, 12-bolt rear end with 3.31:1 Positraction differential, special front and rear suspension, E70-15 white-lettered tires on 7-inch Rally wheels, quick-ratio steering, front disc brakes, chambered exhaust, heavy-duty radiator and thermostatic fan.
